Good morning! Happy August.
This month, REALM is going on a brief, mid-summer pause from the usual photo-essay & interview programming as I travel to see family in the Pacific Northwest, my childhood stomping grounds.
I’ll be back with a new issue in early September. I’m excited to bring you some artist homes from Portland down the road, as well.
A Penny For Your Thoughts
I’d welcome your feedback: what have you been wanting more of, or less of, from REALM, thus far?
I know that long form interviews aren’t for everyone. Would you prefer the monthly issues to be shorter? Longer? Would you like more photographs? Do you still want the Etymology Interludes diving into the history of words which are related to style, home, aesthetics and the domestic arts?
Do you actually want more recommendations for films, books, essays, podcasts and other cultural tidbits, or is there already quite enough content flooding your lives? I’m dedicated to suggesting free, affordable, educational, experimental and inventive alternatives to the endless cycle of commerce and consumption. I’m dedicated to showing a diverse array of aesthetics, and I love featuring affordable, irreverent, creative spaces rather than those that cost a fortune.
I’ll be in touch in fall with REALM’s next interview and photo-essay, featuring the painter Lena Gustafson, who’s utterly colorful, sculptural, art-filled and collage-like style comes through vibrantly both in her small, vintage apartment and her very big, oh-so-modern, artworks.
Have a lovely summer!
Until then,
Airyka
